I’ve often spoken of Rt, the number of people an infected person is expected to infect on average. When it’s over 1 the number of cases grow. When it’s under 1 they decrease. At 1 the infections continue at the same rate. Rt is very hard to calculate and methods vary. I do it by smoothing the new cases over 7 days and then divide this week’s total by last week’s. It matches what the state publishes pretty well. I call it RS7 for Rt smoothed over 7 days.
