NJ Tax deadline now officially extended to July 15th

Earlier this morning, Governor Murphy, Senate President Sweeney, and Assembly Speaker Coughlin issued the following joint statement concerning the tax filing deadline and state budget timetable. “The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has caused hardships, financial strain, and disruptions for many New Jerseyans and New Jersey businesses. As part of our response, we have reached agreement that the state income tax filing deadline and the corporation business tax filing deadline will be extended from April 15th to July 15th. Additionally, as part of the whole-of-government effort that is going into fighting COVID-19, we have agreed that the state fiscal year should be extended to September 30th . This will allow the Administration and the Legislature to focus fully on leading New Jersey out of this crisis, and to allow for a robust, comprehensive, and well-informed budget process later in the year. We are committed to working together to enact the necessary legislation and supplemental appropriations to accomplish these goals.”

Shopping etiquette

The idea from this post comes from a few sources but most recently from a comment made by Assemblyman Joe Danielsen during our daily Freeholder meeting. People are going grocery shopping and leaving their gloves in the parking lot, either on the ground or in the cart.

When you do that you are leaving YOUR problem for someone else. I know this is a scary time but we really need to respect and even look out for one another. The more we cooperate, the better we all will come out of this.

Here is my suggestion. When you pack up you groceries take an extra plastic bag. (Yes I am endorsing plastic ... for now). When you are done unpacking, put your hands in the plastic bag and then take them off. You can then roll put the bag in the car and throw it away when you are done.

You want your family to be safe. When you leave you gloves in the cart or on the ground you are making it unsafe for someone else's family member. When this is over we'd all like to be proud of the way we acted.
